TRANSFER BETWEEN MARRAKECH AND ESSAOUIRA

Usually when anybody comes to Morocco, he/she somehow has to visit either Marrakech or Essaouira or both. But let’s first know a little about both cities.

MARRAKECH

Marrakesh, a former imperial city in western Morocco, is a major economic center and home to mosques, palaces and gardens. The medina is a densely packed, walled medieval city dating to the Berber Empire, with mazelike alleys where thriving souks (marketplaces) sell traditional textiles, pottery and jewelry. A symbol of the city, and visible for miles, is the Moorish minaret of 12th-century Koutoubia Mosque.

ESSAOUIRA

Essaouira is a port city and resort on Morocco’s Atlantic coast. Its medina (old town) is protected by 18th-century seafront ramparts called the Skala de la Kasbah, which were designed by European engineers. Old brass cannons line the walls, and there are ocean views. Strong trade winds make the city’s crescent beach popular for surfing, windsurfing and kite surfing.

Essaouira is an exceptional example of a late-18th-century fortified town, built according to the principles of contemporary European military architecture in a North African context. Since its foundation, it has been a major international trading seaport, linking Morocco and its Saharan hinterland with Europe and the rest of the world.

When settled in Marrakech, you’ll find Essaouira is an excellent option for a day trip from Marrakech since it is located about 3 hours to the west and has a very different feel and atmosphere to Marrakech. It’s a seaside fishing village with a nice beach and ancient medina. It can be busy in the high season, but it’s noticeably more relaxed than Marrakech.
